NEXT GEN MINDFULNESS

Beyond the Plate

Beyond The Plate is a set of 3 dining vessels filled with meat and shaped like common livestock - a cow, chicken and lamb.

It is a discursive project that aims to transform the usual mindless eating habit into a more conscious act. It serves to promote reflection and discussion on the ethical issues of meat production and consumption.

To use the product, users have to cut open the vessels themselves using a pair of scissors then squeeze the belly of the animal-shaped vessel to eat the food inside. This simulates the action of a butcher slaughtering the live animal and a carnivorous animal tearing flesh from a body. It serves to question our position as a convenient end-users in the supply chain and asks if humans were meant to eat meat.
